Head of Marketing & Communications


Position: Full Time, Permanent Contract

Package: Competitive package for an NGO, with salary based on experience

Location: Flexible, European time-zone.

Reporting to: Chief Growth Officer

Job Purpose

The Head of Marketing & Communications will lead WeForest’s global branding, marketing, communications, and public relations functions. This role aims to position WeForest as a trusted leader in the nature-based solutions and reforestation sector and strategically support WeForest’s fundraising across philanthropic donors, governments, developmental institutions, corporates, and the broader carbon & biodiversity market sectors.

Reporting directly to the Chief Growth Officer, the Head of Marketing & Communications is a hands-on, impact-oriented leader that will manage a small, agile MarComs team and a network of external partners.

Main Responsibilities


Strategy Development

* Build and maintain the voice of WeForest to effectively and impactfully tell our story.
* Develop and implement a multi-year marketing & communications strategy aligned with WeForest’s mission and growth objectives.
* Partner with the Leadership Team to drive collaboration between Marketing Communications, Fundraising and Program teams, ensuring storytelling is reflective of WeForest’s organizational impact and is consistent across the organization.
* Define and measure key marketing and communications roles, processes and KPIs.


Brand & Communications

* Translate a global portfolio of science-driven, community-centred restoration programs into targeted and compelling narratives for diverse audiences (corporates, philanthropic donors, media, policymakers, and the general public).
* Define and harmonize WeForest’s brand, visual identity, tone, and messaging across all channels. Ensure internal and external consistency of the WeForest brand.
* Oversee the creation of high-quality content (field reports, campaigns, thought leadership, donor communications, website, social media, newsletters).
* Assist the Chief Growth Officer and CEO in identifying and prioritizing attendance at key events and to develop their thought leadership to serve the organisation
* Manage media relations, PR campaigns, and crisis communications as needed.
* Lead internal communications to ensure alignment and engagement across WeForest teams.


Marketing & Campaign Management

* Lead global marketing and communications campaigns to inspire strategic support and ongoing investment in WeForest’s global programs.
* Oversee the design and delivery of fundraising and corporate partnership communications materials (e.g. fundraising decks, brochures, field reports, video content, etc.)
* Build digital marketing strategies to grow reach and engagement (SEO, social, paid campaigns, analytics).
* Monitor and analyze the performance of communication strategies and campaigns, providing insights and recommendations for improvement.

Internal & External Stakeholder Management

* Manage and mentor a small and agile team across communications, marketing, and PR.
* Coordinate with WeForest project teams across geographies and our HQ fundraising teams to ensure storytelling accurately reflects our impact.
* Engage external agencies, consultants, and creative partners where needed.
* Cultivate and maintain relationships with media outlets, journalists, and key industry stakeholders to enhance visibility and sector market positioning.
* Serve as a key point of contact for corporate partners and donors regarding brand, communications, and campaigns.


Must-Have Qualifications


* Functional Experience: 8–12 years of experience in marketing, communications, and/or PR, ideally with at least 3 years in a leadership role managing teams and external vendors/partners.


* Sector Experience: Experience in nonprofit, sustainability, climate, or developmental sectors. Experience in storytelling targeted at philanthropic, corporate donors, and developmental institution stakeholders.


* Role Related Experience: Demonstrated track record in building trusted brands, developing strategic company and product narratives and executing effective marketing and PR campaigns in support of fundraising and revenue growth.


* Core Skills: Strong writing and storytelling skills, with ability to tailor communications to different audiences. Proficiency with digital marketing tools, analytics, and content management systems. Excellent project management and organizational skills. Strong media relations and stakeholder engagement experience.


* Leadership Qualities: Acts as a unifying force (“the glue”) across teams, fostering collaboration and alignment around a shared vision. Builds strong relationships at all levels of the organization, listening actively and encouraging open communication. Inspires, guides, and coordinates colleagues to ensure all communications are coherent, positive, and consistent. Promotes a culture of clarity, efficiency, and mutual support in all internal and external messaging.


* AI-savvy: strong understanding of how to leverage AI in support of marketing and communications, including content creation, organization, and distribution.


* Education: Degree in Marketing, Communications, Business, or a related field.


Desirable Qualifications


* Familiarity with corporate sustainability frameworks, reforestation, nature conservation, and green finance.
* Knowledge of environmental science and reforestation technologies and their relevance to communications.
