🏢 About the DG ENV Project
The Directorate-General for Environment (DG ENV) develops high-impact policy-driven digital solutions in collaboration with other Commission services and stakeholders. These systems support areas such as:
* Member State reporting obligations
* Import/export licensing for dangerous materials
* Product registries for legal compliance
* Data analysis and visualisation for environmental monitoring
You’ll join Unit A2, contributing to critical systems that support the EU’s digital transformation and environmental policy implementation.
🛠️ Main Responsibilities
* Designing and developing responsive front-end interfaces
* Building back-end applications using Java and Spring frameworks
* Creating and maintaining APIs
* Implementing core business logic and secure architecture
* Working with databases (Oracle or MySQL) for modelling and data processing
* Developing data pipelines and conducting data analysis
* Participating in technical meetings and collaborating with cross-functional teams
* Writing and maintaining technical documentation
* Troubleshooting, testing and resolving issues with a focus on automation
* Leading technical efforts or specific modules, when required
🧠 Required Skills & Knowledge
🔧 Technical Competencies
* Excellent command of Java (5+ years, competence level 5)
* Strong expertise in JPA and SQL (5+ years, level 5)
* Front-end skills: JavaScript, HTML, CSS, AngularJS
* Backend frameworks: EJB, Spring
* Database technologies: Oracle or MySQL
* Enterprise architecture & design patterns
* Cloud platforms and CI/CD pipelines
* Secure coding practices and API design
* Tools: Git, SVN, Bamboo, JIRA, Confluence, SharePoint
