Freelance Quality Assurance Lead Ghent region, Belgium – Initial 6 month contract Job Description A fast-growing agricultural biotechnology scale-up is strengthening its Quality function to support the transition from R&D into early commercialisation. The organisation develops microorganism-based solutions aimed at more sustainable and resilient food systems. The freelance Quality Assurance Lead will take ownership of building and implementing a fit-for-purpose Quality Management System. The focus is on bridging innovative R&D activities with pilot and commercial production, ensuring robust quality processes while maintaining the flexibility required in a fast-moving, science-driven environment. Essential Requirements - Bachelor’s degree in a scientific discipline (biology, microbiology, chemistry, agricultural science, or related) - 5–7+ years of experience in Quality Assurance within an R&D-focused environment - Proven experience building and implementing a QMS from scratch - Hands-on experience with production monitoring, quality release, deviations and CAPA - Solid understanding of QA principles, documentation control and quality risk management Preferred Requirements - Experience in biotech, agri-tech, food, or life sciences environments - Exposure to companies transitioning from R&D to commercial scale - Familiarity with regulatory frameworks related to biopesticides or biostimulants - Experience leading audits or preparing organisations for future compliance (e.G. ISO, GLP) - Strong stakeholder management and communication skills Practicalities - Start Date: Flexible / ASAP - Contract Duration: Initial 6 months (extension highly likely) - Location: Ghent region, Belgium (hybrid/on-site as required) - Additional: Hands-on role combining strategic setup with operational execution Interested?
