About FibriCheck
FibriCheck is a CE class IIa and FDA-cleared Software as a Medical Device (SaMD) for the detection and monitoring of cardiac arrhythmias, including atrial fibrillation, via fingertip PPG. We are a 22-person medtech scale-up headquartered in Hasselt, Belgium, with an established life-saving product and a clear roadmap for growth.
Our product spans a patient-facing mobile app, a web portal for healthcare providers, and a certified algorithm. We operate in both the EU and the US, working closely with healthcare providers, insurers, and research partners.
The Role
We are looking for a Functional Analyst – Digital Health who combines strong analytical skills with a sharp UX sensibility.
The Product Manager (PM) owns the roadmap, sets priorities, and brings business requirements to the table. Your job starts there: you go through those requirements critically, surface gaps and ambiguities, challenge assumptions, and make sure everything is well-defined before it reaches engineering. You then translate requirements into designs, detailed functional specifications, and backlog items that engineers can act on without guesswork.
You work closely with the PM (who you report to), the Head of Engineering, and when relevant, directly with customers and users to validate UX and gather structured product feedback. You are the primary bridge between product vision and engineering execution — and that bridge only holds if what crosses it is unambiguous and technically actionable.
This is a hands-on, specification-driven role. It suits someone who finds satisfaction in making complex things clear, who takes ownership naturally, and who prefers a small high-impact team over a large organizational structure.
What You’ll Do
Product Specification & Backlog
* Review business requirements from the PM critically — flag gaps, unclear assumptions, and edge cases before they become engineering problems
* Translate validated requirements into clear, unambiguous functional specifications (using Jira and MatrixReq)
* Write and refine user stories and acceptance criteria in close collaboration with the PM and Head of Engineering
* Review test cases to ensure they correctly reflect the intended specifications; treat gaps as a signal to sharpen the spec
* Use product analytics and usage data to inform feature decisions, validate assumptions, and identify improvement opportunities
* Join customer calls at the concrete collaboration stage, articulating product capabilities and roadmap direction with confidence
Design & UX
* Create wireframes, interaction flows, and lightweight prototypes that translate requirements into concrete proposals
* For more complex UX challenges, prepare structured design briefs that allow you to work effectively with an external designer or agency
* Validate UX assumptions with end users — patients, physicians, and clinical staff — and feed learnings back into the spec
* Facilitate design review sessions with customers and gather structured input
Regulatory & Process
* Own the traceability between user needs, software requirements, and design outputs — keeping lifecycle documentation per IEC 62304 and ISO 13485 complete and audit-ready
* Plan and drive usability validation activities (formative and summative) as structured milestones, not afterthoughts
* Actively participate in sprint ceremonies and help balance scope, quality, and delivery with the Head of Engineering
* Continuously look for ways to make development and release procedures leaner and clearer while staying fully compliant
* Close the post-market surveillance loop by translating PMS signals, PMCF findings, and complaint trends into concrete backlog items
Who You Are
Experience & Skills
* Analytical and specification-minded. You have experience as a Functional Analyst or Product Owner in a software environment where precision matters. A background in a regulated context (SaMD, medical devices, or similarly structured environments) is a strong asset — but a genuine drive to get up to speed with IEC 62304 and ISO 13485 matters just as much.
* Design-capable. You can move from a requirement to a wireframe or simple interaction design independently. For more complex UX challenges, you know how to brief a designer clearly. Figma or equivalent experience is a plus. You understand what good design looks like for clinical and patient-facing products.
* Structured but pragmatic. You know when a lightweight spec is enough and when you need to go deeper. You write clearly and organize your work so others can build on it without follow-up questions.
* Strong communicator. Comfortable in a sprint planning session, a design review with a clinician, and a call with a prospective B2B partner.
* Languages. Full professional proficiency in English is required (written and spoken).
* AI-native workflow. You actively use LLMs and AI-assisted tools to work smarter and faster. This is a requirement for our way of working, not a nice-to-have. We work with Claude as our preferred tool.
Working Style
* Autonomous and proactive. You do not need constant direction. You identify what needs to happen, make a plan, and execute.
* Ownership-driven. You treat product quality, timelines, and regulatory correctness as your own responsibility — not a task list.
* Collaborative without being dependent. You work well in a small, horizontally structured team. You know when to escalate versus when to decide. You are comfortable pushing back when something is unclear or unrealistic.
* Belgium-based. We are headquartered in Hasselt (Corda Campus). This is a hybrid role with regular in-office presence (minimum 1 day per week). We are looking for candidates based in Belgium or the immediate border region.
* Full-time commitment. This is a full-time, embedded role.
What We Offer
* A central role in a small, high-impact product team developing certified medical software used by over a million patients
* Direct collaboration with the PM, Head of Engineering, and clinical and regulatory experts
* Competitive compensation package including mobility budget, health insurance, and standard benefits
* Flexible, hybrid work arrangements (Office: Hasselt, Corda Campus)
How to Apply
Send your CV and a short cover note to career@fibricheck.com. Tell us about a time you pushed back on a requirement, a brief, or a direction — what was unclear or wrong, what you did about it, and what the outcome was.
We look forward to applications that are tailored to this role. A cover note that could have been sent to any company tells us very little about your fit for this one.
