Role Description
This is a 2 year contract position, renewable based on performance and organisational needs. We are seeking a highly motivated and intellectually curious Policy Analyst to join our European Affairs team. This role is ideal for a proactive individual who thrives on uncovering insights, building meaningful relationships, and connecting the dots between geopolitics, policy, and industry.
As part of our team, you will lead efforts to monitor developments in EU regulatory and political landscapes, and identify key points and communicate effectively. Your work will support Mitsubishi Corporation’s strategic decision-making at both the executive management level and among front-line business teams, and help shape our understanding of emerging challenges and opportunities in Europe and beyond.
Key Responsibilities
* Conduct timely and independent research on EU regulatory developments, including core areas for Mitsubishi Corporation such as energy, digital, critical raw materials, sustainability, trade, and industrial strategy
* Identify and distill key points from complex geopolitical and policy developments, and clearly organize them to highlight their potential relevance and implications for our business in Europe and beyond
* Proactively gather first-hand insights by engaging directly with stakeholders through meetings, events, and informal conversations, and integrate these into reports and memos to enhance their relevance and added value beyond secondary sources such as media or consultancy reports
* Support the team prepare well-structured reports, policy briefings, and recommendations tailored to internal audiences by providing evidence-based insights and analysis.
* Proactively build and maintain a broad network of stakeholders across EU institutions, industry groups, think tanks, consulting firms, and academic circles to stay abreast of expert insights and emerging perspectives
* Collaborate across global teams to share perspectives and contribute to cross-regional initiatives
* Assist business departments to translate policy insights and market intelligence into actionable inputs for early-stage business exploration and strategic planning
* As part of a small and agile team, support general office operations as needed, including administrative duties, scheduling, and coordination of logistics for business visitors and delegations
Ideal Candidate Profile
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills, particularly in summarizing policy and regulatory issues in a clear and concise manner with an ability to synthesize varied sources of information into coherent insights
* Proactive and curious, with a strong willingness to engage both internally and externally and build relationships with key stakeholders including policy experts, institutions, and industry stakeholders.
* Demonstrated ability to monitor and keep pace with fast-changing geopolitical and political developments, showing strong situational awareness and analytical skills
* Solid understanding of EU institutions, policymaking processes, and regulatory frameworks
* Bachelor’s or higher degree in Political Science, International Relations, European Studies, Law, Economics, Business or related disciplines
* 3–5+ years of relevant professional experience in public policy, EU affairs, government relations, consulting, business development or similar fields
* Fluency in English is required; proficiency in French or German is a strong asset
* Interest in Japanese and global business culture is a plus
