OverviewMedical Science Liaison - Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease who will cover the South of Belgium. The role is 80% field-based and involves building scientific partnerships with Key External Experts (KEE) and healthcare professionals by providing high-quality up-to-date scientific information. The MSL will develop robust scientific and medical expertise in the therapeutic area and AstraZeneca products, combine this with business acumen and strong communication skills. The role will collaborate with the Medical Affairs manager (office-based) and report to the Medical Affairs Lead of the therapeutic area (TA).ResponsibilitiesStay up to date in TA knowledge through active monitoring of scientific literature, congress attendance and interactions with Key External Experts (KEE).Discuss key data sets with experts in face-to-face contacts or group meetings to identify patient pathways and treatment realities in areas of medical need as guided by the TA strategy.Develop omnichannel medical communication plans and manage implementation.Build relationships with experts for advocacy development.Partner with KEEs and manage projects leading to optimized COPD patient care.Brief speakers for scientific events.Document customer and visit information in a customer relationship management tool.Continuously improve communication skills through coaching by line-manager or other coaches in joint visits.Interact with other MSLs from other countries or other TAs to exchange best practices.Attend international and national scientific and medical congresses in the TA.Respond to unsolicited Medical Information (MI) requests about approved or unapproved AstraZeneca products, or about unapproved uses of approved products.Cross-functional Scientific ExchangeShare customer insights with internal stakeholders (brand team, sales reps).Gain profound territory knowledge (e.g., via input from sales representatives).Educate sales representatives by providing in-depth information on disease and therapies when required.Support Clinical Operations in site selection.Collaborate with External Service Provider for MI to meet local MI procedure requirements.KA/KEE EngagementOrganize and lead meetings with KEEs to gain input on well-defined data sets or projects that advance the TA strategy.Recruit participants from the target list for these meetings.Develop relationships with KEEs and understand their interests.Conduct and moderate meetings with sound knowledge of the TA strategy (business acumen).Coordinate with the brand team to prepare and report back.Partnership ManagementManage Externally Sponsored Research and follow up on grants/chairs/scientific sponsoring with KEEs.ComplianceComplete all training requirements.Comply with external regulations and internal policies, including AZ MSL guide, external interactions policy, publications policy, and congress policy.Skills & ExperienceMedical or Pharmacist degree or scientific degree with PhD.Significant experience in searching, handling, assimilating, synthesizing, reporting and presenting scientific data in the health care sector.National mobility and flexibility (evening meetings).Knowledge of the therapeutic area or ability to acquire rapidly.Medical integrity and ethical balance.Profound interest in the Belgian Healthcare system.Languages: Fluent in French and English; knowledge of Dutch is a plus.Desirable Skills/ExperienceExperience in pharmaceutical medical and marketing processes.Experience in moderating meetings with Healthcare Professionals.Broadened employability in other TAs is an asset.Job DetailsSeniority level: Mid-Senior levelEmployment type: Full-timeJob function: Research, Analyst, and Information TechnologyIndustries: Pharmaceutical ManufacturingLocation notes and additional postings are not included to maintain focus on the role.
