In this field‑based medical role, you will serve as a trusted scientific partner to healthcare professionals, external experts, and key stakeholders within the Rheumatology community. You will contribute to shaping medical insights, supporting clinical initiatives, and strengthening AbbVie's scientific leadership in a rapidly evolving therapeutic area.
The role focuses on medical and scientific engagement with AbbVie stakeholders (research and healthcare professionals, payers, and providers) and on interacting with and supporting the needs of Tiered External Experts in the therapeutic area of interest and geographic allocation.
Responsibilities
Provide scientific and technical leadership to ensure professional and credible relationships with thought leaders and external experts of strategic importance to AbbVie.
Assist in the initiation, oversight, and follow‑up of assigned clinical studies and medical projects within the therapeutic area, including post‑marketing activities such as registry/database projects, epidemiological surveys, and post‑authorization studies (phase IV).
Serve as a point of contact within the Medical Affairs team for thought leaders and external experts within an assigned geographic area, satisfying their needs for scientific knowledge and, when requested, relevant AbbVie medicines to support safe, effective, and appropriate use. Use available communication channels, including digital, to optimize scientific communication with External Experts based on their educational needs.
Upon request, assist physicians with requests for access to AbbVie medicines on early‑access programs, subject to all applicable legal and regulatory requirements.
Deliver credible presentations on scientific matters to physicians, individually or in groups (meetings, clinical sessions, etc.) where requested.
Provide key thought leaders, external experts, and internal medical and clinical teams with scientific and technical support for publications of scientific or medical interest.
Support internal teams such as sales and marketing and members of the Affiliate Brand Team to develop their scientific and technical expertise through the delivery of scientific update presentations.
Work collaboratively and cross‑functionally with other in‑field members while retaining functional independence.
Facilitate medical and scientific field intelligence—e.g., competitor research, medical strategies, educational activities—and communicate, when appropriate, within the company. Detect signals from external experts and translate these into insights, opportunities, and threats for the company.
Attend relevant scientific meetings and conferences. Collaborate with internal stakeholders to develop summaries of key data and other scientifically relevant information to inform AbbVie strategic priorities and initiatives.
Collaborate with Clinical Research, development, and Real‑World Evidence teams to facilitate successful study set‑up and related recruitment support.
Develop and maintain expertise in the specific therapeutic area, attending scientific society meetings and local, global scientific medical meetings.
Develop preliminary contacts with External Experts and identify UMNs in specific diseases, gaining scientific expertise to support market access and pre‑launch internal activities.
Plan field activity and External Expert engagement plans using the tools provided (Veeva, SIP, SCL, dashboards) aligned with Playbook requirements. Ensure excellence in field activity execution, reporting, and follow‑up.
