Overview
Data Center Construction Manager is part of AWS Infrastructure Services, focused on construction project management, on-site leadership, and coordination with partner teams to build data centers that support AWS customers. The role requires driving cost, schedule, and quality while managing construction vendors and contractors on data center projects. You will be on the construction site daily, acting as Amazon's owner’s representative and collaborating with Operations, Networking, Controls, Security, and Commissioning to deliver energy-efficient, cost-effective data centers.
Key responsibilities
* Direct interface with construction general contractors during bidding, award, execution, and project closeout/punch list phases.
* Conduct negotiations with general contractors and evaluate bids/proposals with detail and accuracy.
* Create construction project scope and requests for proposals.
* Perform financial analysis of construction.
* Manage construction projects for initiatives aimed at increasing the resiliency of data centers.
* Conduct constructability reviews of electrical and mechanical designs for new data centers or optimization of existing facilities.
* Manage construction documents including submittal review, RFIs, change orders, and invoicing.
* Ensure construction project quality control and record and report key construction metrics to team members and management.
* Drive teams to perform troubleshooting and root-cause analysis for equipment failures.
* Provide leadership within the group and across internal and external teams supporting the data center work.
Basic Qualifications
* Experience in construction management of large, complex projects involving large-scale mechanical, electrical, and plumbing (MEP) systems.
* Experience directly related to the design or construction of data centers or critical infrastructure.
* 12+ years of general contractor and vendor management experience (RFPs, bidding, change orders, quality control, RFI/submittal tracking) related to construction and project execution.
* Willingness to travel 50-75% within country and to other countries in LatAm.
Preferred Qualifications
* Experience in project management for data centers or comparable critical infrastructure.
* Knowledge of building codes and regulations including Life Safety, BOCA, NFPA, NEC, or OSHA.
* Knowledge of engineering documentation, electrical diagrams, and standard operating procedures.
