Purpose and Objectives
We’re looking for a Development Manager eager to learn and contribute to Big Data Fabric Services (BDFS), building an innovative, engaged, collaborative platform for big data. BDFS enables SAP Lines of Business to enter the world of big data easily by providing Apache Spark as a service, a multi‑language engine for executing data engineering, data science, and machine learning on single‑node machines or clusters (Kubernetes in our case). It also allows data to be consumed from multiple hyperscaler‑agnostic data sources using the Delta Sharing communication protocol on top of the HANA Data Lake File Service (HDLFS).
What You’ll Do
Technical Lead Responsibilities
* Assume full ownership of development and engineering progress, ensuring alignment, accountability, and the successful delivery of products.
* Provide expert technical guidance and implement best practices to enhance product development processes.
* Lead with a hands‑on approach while leveraging deep technical expertise to inspire, guide, and support the team.
* Guarantee the team delivers the committed features on time.
* Actively facilitate innovative solutions for complex technical problems, encouraging collaboration and proactive problem‑solving.
* Drive the development of secure, robust, scalable, and maintainable software, ensuring adherence to quality assurance processes and product standards.
* Mentor engineering team members, cultivating a culture of continuous learning, accountability, and professional growth.
People Manager Responsibilities
* Manage and develop individuals and teams, creating an environment that encourages growth both personally and professionally.
* Build and nurture a high‑performing team, emphasizing engineering excellence and fostering positive social interactions.
* Lead initiatives for hiring top talent from both within and outside the organization and ensure their seamless integration into the team.
* Set clear, achievable goals with team members, provide inspiration and support to achieve those goals, and evaluate performance transparently and fairly.
* Promote a culture of continuous learning and improvement, offering regular coaching and feedback to aid personal and professional development.

What You Bring
Required Skills
* Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or an IT related field.
* Proven experience as a Development Manager or in a similar leadership role within a technical environment.
* Strong technical background with experience in software development and engineering, especially cloud development.
* Excellent leadership and people management skills, with a track record of building and growing high‑performing teams.
* Strong problem‑solving abilities and a passion for fostering a collaborative, innovative work environment.
* Excellent communication skills, with the ability to articulate technical concepts and foster relationships across all levels of the organization.

Team Responsibilities
* Extend and complete the SAP Data Platform with big data technologies and third‑party partnerships to support different SAP Lines of Business and SAP customers to enter the world of Big Data.
* Leverage Apache Spark and Object store technology to provide scalable and cost‑effective computing and storage services for big data ingestion, processing, and sharing.
* Integrate into SAP BTP and HANA Cloud & Data Lakehouse to offer unified development and deployment experience for different SAP Lines of Business.
* Assure multi‑tenancy and secure data processing.
