YOU ARE…
* hold a Master of Laws degree and have at least 10-15 years of relevant experience, including significant experience as a senior in-house counsel or legal director, preferably in the real estate development or broader real estate industry;
* have solid knowledge across real estate law, contract law, commercial law, liability law and company law; you are comfortable navigating both development and operational legal matters, across multiple jurisdictions;
* independent, proactive and motivated;
* good at finding the right balance between legal accuracy and pragmatism;
* highly communicative and a team player;
* efficient, precise and structured;
* stress resistant and able to work at a high pace;
* have a strong command of English; knowledge of French is a major asset; and
* ready to take ownership of the legal function and to build and lead a high-performing legal team, setting the standard for legal excellence across the group.
YOU GRAB A CUP OF COFFEE (OR TEA) AND…
* you serve as the primary legal partner to the executive team and all LIFE departments (finance, development, operations, HR), proactively identifying and managing legal risk across the full lifecycle of our projects — from development through to commercial exploitation;
* you oversee all legal disputes, managing and directing our external lawyers and ensuring strategic alignment with business objectives;
* you build and manage LIFE’s external legal panel across all jurisdictions, including Italian, Dutch and other international counsel and notaries, ensuring quality, cost-efficiency and strategic alignment across all mandates;
* you establish and own the contract governance framework, setting standards and approval thresholds for agreements across the group, covering the full range of development contracting and the of operational agreements;
* you oversee the insurance strategy for our projects, companies and directors, ensuring optimal coverage across the portfolio;
* you coordinate transactional matters (share deals, asset deals, joint ventures…) in close collaboration with our external transaction advisors, ensuring legal continuity and business alignment throughout each process;
* you support the legal structuring of our Italian student housing development and operational processes;
* you own the corporate governance of LIFE NV and its subsidiaries, including board processes, statutory compliance, UBO, AML and group structuring;
* you protect LIFE’s IP portfolio, overseeing our brand portfolio and trademark programme in coordination with specialist advisors;
* you own the GDPR and broader regulatory compliance programme across the group, keeping pace with evolving obligations;
* you cultivate and manage LIFE’s strategic legal network, including notaries, external counsel, banks, regulators and joint-venture partners; and
* you report directly to the CEO and act as a trusted legal partner to the board and executive team, with a seat at the table on all strategic decisions.
