Starion Group is looking, on behalf of our sister company Nexova, for a Space Systems Simulation Engineer with a strong background in space systems engineering, eager to apply their expertise to the next generation of cybersecurity and cyber-resilience challenges in the space sector.
In this role, you will contribute to the development of advanced spacecraft and ground segment simulation and emulation environments used within ESA cyber-range platforms. Your work will help create realistic operational environments that strengthen the resilience of future space missions against emerging cyber threats.
This is first and foremost a systems engineering role focused on modelling, simulation, integration, and complex technical problem solving — not a pure software development or traditional cybersecurity operations position. We are particularly interested in candidates with experience in spacecraft systems, mission operations, ground segment engineering, simulation environments, system integration, or operational engineering.
Prior cybersecurity expertise is not required. What matters most is a solid engineering mindset, curiosity about cyber resilience, and an interest in working at the intersection of space operations, simulation, and security.
Tasks and Activities
* Design, develop, integrate, and maintain space system simulation and emulation environments, including interfaces to specialized external hardware and cyber-range technologies for realistic operational and testing scenarios.
* Support the implementation and execution of cyber-attack and resilience-testing scenarios within simulated space system environments.
* Develop scripts, automation tools, and simulation logic to support operational, launch, testing, and cyber-resilience exercise scenarios.
* Support networking, infrastructure, and application-level integration tasks related to simulation and emulation platforms.
* Operate and maintain secure and classified systems in accordance with applicable security standards and operational procedures.
* Produce and maintain technical documentation related to system architectures, interfaces, integration activities, and operational procedures.
Skills and experience
* University degree or equivalent experience in Systems Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related technical field.
* 4+ years of experience working on complex systems engineering projects within the space sector. Ideally with practical experience in one or more of the following areas: spacecraft systems engineering, ground segment engineering, mission operations systems, system integration and testing, simulation or emulation environments, verification & Validation (V&V), and/or operational engineering environments
* Good understanding of spacecraft and/or ground segment architectures, operational concepts, and engineering lifecycles.
* Experience with space system simulation, modelling, emulation, or test environments.
* Programming and/or scripting experience (e.g. Python, C/C++, MATLAB, Simulink, Bash, or similar) to support simulation, automation, tooling, and engineering activities.
* Interest in cybersecurity and cyber-resilience topics within the space sector.
* Ability to work both autonomously and collaboratively within international and multidisciplinary teams.
* Eligibility for EU security clearance.
* Fluent written and spoken English.
