About the Opportunity
De Lijn is looking for an experienced Medior Data Engineer to join the ICT & Data Architecture Department, specifically within the Data & Analytics Architecture team.
This role combines 60% Data Engineering and 40% Data Analysis & Advanced Analytics, making it ideal for a professional who enjoys working across the full data lifecycle—from building robust data pipelines to delivering meaningful business insights.
As part of an innovative initiative supporting De Lijn's transition to a new electric vehicle fleet, you will help unlock, integrate, and normalize large volumes of technical vehicle data. You will work closely with a collaborative project team consisting of a Data Scientist, two Data Engineers/Data Analysts, and a Product Owner.
Key Responsibilities
* Design, develop, and maintain scalable ETL pipelines.
* Build and optimize data integration processes.
* Develop end-to-end data solutions for advanced analytics.
* Work with Azure cloud services to process and manage large datasets.
* Analyze complex datasets and provide actionable insights.
* Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure data quality and reliability.
* Take full ownership of assigned projects from design through implementation.
Required Skills & Experience
Must-Have
* Minimum 4 years of experience as a Data Engineer.
* Experience within the public transport sector.
* At least 4 years of experience building ETL pipelines and data integration solutions.
* Hands-on experience with Azure technologies, including:
o Azure Batch
o Apache Airflow
o Azure Functions
o Event Hub
* Minimum 3 years of experience with the relevant technology stack or similar technologies.
* Fluent Dutch language skills (CEFR C2 level).
Nice to Have
* Experience with CI/CD pipelines and Git.
* Experience with monitoring tools such as Grafana and Azure Log Analytics.
* At least 4 years of experience with Python (PySpark).
* Bachelor's or Master's degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Information Technology, or equivalent practical experience.
