Ph3Doctoral scholarship holder in geometry and/or dynamics /h3 pbLet’s shape the future - University of Antwerp /b /p pThe Department ofMathematics in the Faculty of Sciences is looking for ba full-time doctoral scholarship holder in the field of Geometry and/or Dynamics /b /p h3Position /h3 pPhd Research /p ul liYou will work actively on the preparation and defence of a PhD thesis in the field of geometry and/or dynamics. Your research topic will fall in the intersection of the current research lines of Prof Sonja Hohloch and Prof Tom Mestdag, see here for their webpages. A non-exhaustive list of topics includes, for example, symplectic geometry, (non-)integrable Hamiltonian systems, Floer homology, symmetries of differential equations, geometric mechanics, Finsler geometry, …. The precise topic will be decided, in consultation with the selected candidate, at the start of the scholarship. /li liYou will organise your own PhD research and report on your progress regularly. /li liYou will participate in the doctoral study programme at the Antwerp Doctoral School to support your PhD pathway. /li liYou will present the findings of your PhD research at academic conferences and you willpublish them in scientific journals. /li /ul h3Education /h3 ul liYou will provide support with teaching and also teach high-quality academic classes yourself in Mathematics. Your teaching assignment may include basic mathematics courses as well as more specialized courses in your research domain. /li liYou will supervise students and their Bachelor and Master dissertations. /li /ul h3Services /h3 ul liIf eligible, you will apply in the first year of your appointment for a PhD Fellowship at the Science Foundation – Flanders (FWO). /li liYou will play an active role in the academic and societal service provision of the Department of Mathematics. For example, you will assist in student recruitment and alumni activities and serve on boards and committees,... /li /ul h3Profile /h3 ul liYou hold a Master degree in Mathematics, Physics or Engineering Sciences, or you will have obtained it by the time you start work. /li liYou did not yet obtain a PhD in Mathematics. /li liYou have a very good and broad knowledge of analysis, dynamical systems and differential geometry. /li liYour teaching competences are in line with the University of Antwerp’s educational vision. /li liYou are motivated to work actively on your further professional development. /li liYou act with attention to quality, integrity, creativity and cooperation. /li liYou are willing to learn Dutch if you do not yet speak it. /li /ul h3What we offer /h3 ul liWe offer a doctoral scholarship for a period of one year.
