The Assistant System Manager’s (ASM) role is to ensure the streamlined operation of the IT Department on board the ships and its alignment with the business objectives of the organization. This individual will participate, implement, and maintain all related IT systems on board the ship. The ASM will report to the System Manager who will provide guidance a direction on priority, goals, and objectives for the day. The ASM is empowered to identify and make recommendations to the System Manager that would assist and resolve support issues in a cost-effective manner for all aspects of the on board environment.
Responsibilities
* Guest Experience: Demonstrates a genuine concern for guests’ wellbeing at all times; pro-active approach to problem solving; ensuring staff training, development and knowledge throughout all areas of the Operation is maintained at optimum levels to facilitate the guests’ experience.
* Operational and Administrative: Provide level 1 support to all computer users and guests as required. Log and manage through resolution all support requests into the help desk system. Ensure all support requests contain the most up to date status. Assist the System Manager as needed to maintain optimal level of IT services on board.
* Embarkation (ASM responsibilities): Fully responsible for setting up Embarkation on or off the ship, including preparing the day prior to ensure all hardware is staged and ready to be deployed the next day, Deployment/setup of the Embarkation Units, Troubleshooting issues preventing guest check-in, packing/storing equipment at the end of the Embarkation process. Inform System Manager of any issues that may affect Embarkation; keep the System Manager apprised of the status of all pending issues and support requests.
* Operations & Maintenance: Advise System Manager of shipboard changes affecting IT operations; perform preventative maintenance of printers and other hardware accessories; document work performed into the helpdesk system; assist in coordinating technician and vendor visits for repairs/modifications; prepare paperwork for disposing or landing hardware; provide support to all users of systems; evaluate urgency of requests; ensure copyright policies are not violated; report violations.
* Asset and Inventory: Maintain an updated inventory of spare parts; ensure spare equipment is in good working order; practice asset management for shipboard IT hardware, software, and equipment; maintain backup tapes log; report discrepancies or problems with backups; coordinate technician/vendor visits; obtain knowledge/documentation during visits; forward defective equipment to Corporate as needed; maintain inventory of hardware and software; manage shared resources.
* Systems Deployment and Monitoring: Assist in deployment, monitoring, maintenance, upgrade, and support of shipboard IT systems (servers, PCs, OS, hardware, software, peripherals); monitor systems for copyright compliance; support IT policies and procedures as directed by the System Manager; participate in security and disaster recovery planning.
Qualifications
* Education and Experience: College diploma or university degree in computer science and/or 3 years equivalent work experience. Strong technical knowledge of network and PC operating systems (Microsoft environment); strong knowledge of network hardware, protocols, and standards (Cisco environment); extensive application support experience. Familiarity with Fidelio Cruise suite (not required) and Micros Point of Sales system (not required).
* Skills: Excellent written and oral communication skills in English; excellent interpersonal and appearance; ability to work in an international environment; shipboard experience preferred; highly self-motivated, detail-oriented, and able to perform under pressure; proven analytical, evaluative, and problem-solving abilities; exceptional customer service orientation; able to execute tasks under guidance of the System Manager; able to present ideas to the System Manager; strong teamwork and collaboration.
* Other: On-call availability; physical ability to sit for extended periods, handle equipment, inspect cables, and lift moderately heavy objects; occasional vessel environment tasks.
