Ph3In a nutshell /h3 /brpThe NV Driveability team develops vehicle sound experiences for the European market, focusing on NVH and driving enjoyment. This internship explores how sound can enhance emotional driving in electric vehicles. You will help design and evaluate soundscapes using recordings, DAWs, and simulations, linking sound to perception. Tasks include sound modeling, jury testing, and data analysis. You’ll work in a multidisciplinary environment, combining engineering, acoustics, and creativity to shape future in-car sound experiences. /p /brh3Company Information /h3 /brpbTOYOTA /b is one of the world’s largest automobile manufacturers and a leading global corporation. Founded in 1937. Toyota now sells vehicles in 170 countries and employs over 350.000 people. Based in Brussels, Belgium, and staffed by 2.700 people and more than 60 nationalities, Toyota Motor Europe (TME) handles the wholesale marketing of Toyota and Lexus vehicles, parts accessories, and manages Toyota’s European RD, manufacturing, and engineering operations. /p /brpWe are excited to be transforming into a mobility company focusing on bringing even more happiness to our customers through various mobility solutions. /p /brh3Your team and your responsibilities /h3 /brpbTeam/division description /b /p /brpTME RD centre is responsible for planning, development and production support of vehicles aimed at - and locally produced for - the European market. /p /brpThe “NV Driveability” team is part of the Vehicle Performance Engineering division (VPE) division and is responsible for the vehicle NVH (Noise, Vibration and harshness) according to EU customer expectations. We aim at the development of attractive and “fun to drive” cars matching European market requirements and customer expectations. Using state-of-the art experimental and numerical methods, we develop strategies to achieve the targets, and validate them on virtual and physical prototypes. /p /brpbYour project /b /p /brpbTitle: "Emotional drive by active sound” /b /p /brpWith the transition to hybrid and electric vehicles, customer expectations towards interior quietness are further increasing. Furthermore, the transition towards a Software-Defined Vehicle (SDV) will introduce new possibilities to apply active sound creation technologies to create a unique sound experience for each person in the car cabin. How should the future electric vehicle sound? /p /brpIn this internship, you will contribute to shaping the soundscape of future electric vehicles. We aim to realize a customer‑centric approach in evaluating different sound aspects when a customer is using their car. Your role will be to support creating an infrastructure for immersive sound evaluation and to contribute to the auralization of different soundscapes and the evaluation of different sound aspects in this environment. More specifically, your tasks may include the following aspects (all of them or focused on some of them, depending on your preference, capability and progress during the internship): /p /brul /brliYou will support the creation of holistic vehicle sound models, based on modification of existing vehicle sound recordings and your own study of sound concepts (sound research, benchmarking), to establish links between sound and motion perception / emotional driving experience. /li /brliYou will support the implementation evaluation of these sound models using state-of-the-art jury testing methods and draw conclusions from a statistical evaluation of the results. /li /brliYou will ensure the auralization of the sounds in a holistic (driving simulator) environment, and support actual in‑vehicle implementation and playback of active sounds and extended soundscape. /li /br /ul /brh3Your Profile /h3 /brul /brliYou are fluent in English (TME’s business language) /li /brliYou are pursuing your master’s in mechanical, acoustical or electrical engineering. /li /brliYou are passionate about cars and sound/acoustics. /li /brliA basic experience in digital sound creation (DAW) is required. /li /brliKnowledge of acoustics or NV (Noise Vibration) testing is a plus. /li /brliExperience in statistical analysis of measurement data is a strong asset. /li /brliYou are eager to work in a multi‑cultural environment. /li /br /ul /brh3Starting date /h3 /brul /brliJune 2026 /li /br /ul /brh3Duration /h3 /brul /brli6 months /li /br /ul /brh3Confidentiality /h3 /brpDue to business requirement, not all performed projects can be reflected in the internship report.
