VP, Head of Marine Belgium & Netherlands in the Belgium & Netherlands team.
This role works closely with the Country Manager Belgium & Netherlands and the Continental Europe Line of Business Head for Marine to develop and expand client and broker relationships, accelerate profitable growth, and achieve profitability targets in line with local, regional and global strategies.
Key responsibilities include acting as a company ambassador, building relationships with external stakeholders, and supporting profitable growth across Belgium and the Netherlands.

Responsibilities
Own full P&L accountability and lead the development and execution of the market strategy for Marine in Belgium and the Netherlands.
Contribute to the growth and expected profitability of the Sompo International Marine portfolio by actively sourcing submissions.
Proactively negotiate with clients and brokers to build relationships and develop new and renewal business.
Build and manage a well‑diversified, balanced book in terms of risk profile and segmentation.
Actively participate in the development of underwriting strategies within the Marine team at European level.
Participate in the local management team.
Analyse underwriting information, create offers and ensure appropriate terms and conditions are secured.
Perform contract negotiation and travel to client meetings to present to customers and brokers.
Develop, launch and maintain local language Marine product versions while monitoring local market and product developments.
Ensure underwriting document filings, accuracy of data entries to systems and contract integrity for underwritten accounts.
Interact, communicate and negotiate with all levels of external and internal business partners.
Support marketing efforts with high‑quality, original solutions to enhance Sompo International’s reputation and market presence.
Lead value‑add projects, developments and activities as required.
Represent Sompo externally at the highest level, including the press, industry forums and corporate communications events, to raise the company’s profile within the marketplace.
Qualifications
10+ years of experience in underwriting and senior management positions in Marine in the Netherlands and Belgium; wider experience is a plus.
Deep insurance industry knowledge, supported by relevant qualifications and a strong track record of accomplishment.
Expertise in underwriting global Marine insurance programs.
Broad network within the Dutch and Belgian broker and in‑house risk manager community.
Strong, visible leadership skills that empower and enable others.
Business‑building mindset with a track record of growing profitable book of insurance business.
Excellent interpersonal, communication and leadership skills; able to provide clear direction through periods of change.
Highest levels of integrity.
Deep knowledge of international management processes and corporate dynamics as well as a thorough understanding of the market and industry environment.
Strong understanding of economic relationships and business models in the insurance industry.
Entrepreneurial mindset and the ability to recognize opportunities and approach new trends.
Strategic thinking with a proven ability to deliver tactical solutions; experience in developing and executing annual and long‑term strategic plans.
Good understanding of the insurance regulatory environment and its influence on business development, underwriting and claims management strategies.
Demonstrated leadership in performance management and team building, combined with extensive skills in analysing and solving issues or problems.
Strong emotional intelligence and ability to communicate clearly and persuasively.
