Beerse, Antwerp, Belgium Job Description

We are seeking an exceptional Principal Scientist to advance our neuroscience discovery efforts through high‑content imaging and disease‑relevant cellular models in neurodegeneration. The role involves developing assays, generating insights, and guiding discovery programs toward future therapies for patients with unmet needs. Key Responsibilities

Hands‑on assay development in neurodegeneration models: Develop, optimize, and execute assays in complex in‑vitro models (primary, aggregation, cell lines). Generate high‑quality, reproducible data in physiologically relevant models for compound profiling and biological understanding. Interpret complex datasets and translate findings into clear scientific recommendations for project teams and cross‑functional stakeholders. Integrate assay outcomes with broader pharmacology and translational data to drive mechanistic insight. Document experimental work rigorously and communicate results in reports and project updates.

High‑content imaging and analysis in neurodegeneration models: Own complete imaging workflows including experimental design, acquisition settings, quality control, troubleshooting, downstream analysis, and data interpretation. Lead hands‑on imaging efforts in complex, physiologically relevant models for neurodegeneration. Provide technical expertise across imaging modalities (high‑content imaging, live‑cell imaging, confocal/spinning‑disk microscopy). Analyze high‑content imaging data in complex models (neuronal systems, co‑cultures, 3D models) to quantify relevant phenotypes and generate meaningful readouts.

Leadership expectations: Act as a senior hands‑on scientist within neuroscience programs, demonstrating deep technical expertise and rigorous execution. Take ownership of scientific questions and experimental approaches, offering data‑driven recommendations. Collaborate across functions, serving as a trusted scientific partner to program progress. Mentor junior scientists, building technical capability and scientific confidence across the team.

Required Qualifications

Ph.D. in Biomedical Sciences, Neurosciences or equivalent, with at least 5 years of industry experience in drug discovery or translational research. Deep hands‑on experience in neurodegeneration‑relevant cellular models (neuronal aggregation models and disease‑relevant in‑vitro systems). Proven expertise in high‑content imaging, including assay development, image acquisition, data analysis, and interpretation in complex cellular systems. Ability to define and implement quality metrics for assay robustness and image‑based readouts. Independent planning, troubleshooting, meticulous record‑keeping, and effective communication of results to cross‑functional partners. Preferred Experience

Programming in R or Python for high‑content imaging data analysis. Key Competencies

Strong bench‑based scientific judgment in neuroscience and neurodegeneration research. Scientific rigor, attention to detail, and meticulous record‑keeping. Collaborative mindset and effective cross‑functional stakeholder engagement. Practical problem‑solving skills, translating complex datasets into decision‑relevant scientific recommendations. Required Skills

Big Data Management, Critical Thinking, Data Reporting, Data Savvy, Drug Discovery Development, Molecular Diagnostics, Organizing, Pharmaceutical Microbiology, Problem Solving, Product Knowledge, Project Reporting, Project Schedule, Research Proposals, Scientific Research, Standard Operating Procedure (SOP), Standard Scientific Processes and Procedures, Strategic Thinking, Sustainability Preferred Skills
