About the Role
We are seeking a Medior Data Warehouse Developer for a freelance assignment with our client in Gent, Belgium. This is a 13-month engagement, with the possibility of extension. You’ll play a pivotal role in shaping a performant, stable, and cost‑efficient BI platform that empowers the City of Ghent group to become truly data‑driven. Your expertise will directly impact how data is integrated, modeled, and leveraged for smarter decision‑making across diverse city services.

Key Responsibilities
Collaborate with BI colleagues to enhance and maintain a high‑performance, stable, and maintainable BI platform
Design, develop, and optimise data warehouse models and schemas using SQL Server
Develop and refine ETL/data integration pipelines, including SSIS packages, to consolidate data from SAP, Dynamics CRM, and external APIs
Support the design and maintenance of reports, datasets, and dashboards for various city services, focusing on underlying data layers and integrations
Contribute to Power BI governance, workspace management, deployment pipelines, and version control via GitHub Enterprise
Monitor and manage BI application jobs, ensuring reliability and performance
Apply Agile development methodologies to deliver iterative improvements and foster collaboration
Leverage agentic development tools such as GitHub Copilot or Claude AI to accelerate and enhance development workflows
Technical Skills & Experience
Demonstrable experience with data warehouse modelling (Medior level)
Demonstrable experience with Microsoft Fabric (Junior level)
Strong background in project‑oriented working and/or formal training in data warehouse modelling
Hands‑on experience with planning, designing, and building data warehouse applications using tools such as Cognos or Datastage
Proven expertise in testing ETL flows (Medior level)
Experience with BI application management and job monitoring (Medior level)
Demonstrable experience with GitHub Copilot or Claude AI
Experience with Power BI and Power BI Desktop
Solid understanding of data warehousing concepts, processes, and architectures
Experience building data warehouse components: data integration (ETL), reporting & analysis (BI), databases, and metadata
Familiarity with Agile development methodology
Fluent Dutch speaker at European CEFR level C2 (required)
Other Requirements
Affinity for agentic development and AI‑assisted coding tools
Ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary BI team
Strong sense of ownership, problem‑solving mindset, and commitment to delivering impact
Freelance position based in Gent, Belgium, with a 13‑month initial duration (extension possible)
Assignment subject to indexation after each 12‑month period, in line with framework agreement
