The Medical Affairs Manager Breast Cancer is a core member of the brand team and takes the medical lead in the therapeutic area (TA) through 1) providing key medical input to marketing‑sales‑market access interface 2) deliver strategic and educational medical affairs projects 3) engaging key external experts (KEE) 4) coaching Medical Science Liaison(s) (MSL) in TA. These outputs are guaranteed through continuously building robust scientific and medical expertise on the therapeutic area, AstraZeneca products and its competitors in combination with a business acumen attitude and strong communication skills.
Job Responsibilities
Maintain top‑notch robust scientific and medical expertise:
Keep track of relevant scientific peer‑reviewed literature in the TA
Attend international and national scientific and medical congresses in the TA
Engage with KEE in the TA
Assimilate customer insights obtained through different means
Ensure excellent up‑to‑date scientific knowledge in product and therapeutic area of internal colleagues through knowledge updates, medical product training sessions
Respond to unsolicited Medical Information (MI) requests about approved or unapproved AstraZeneca products, or about unapproved uses of approved AstraZeneca products.
Work together with External Service Provider for MI to meet the requirements set in the local MI procedure.
Deliver key medical input into the brand strategy:
Works in a strategic partnership with the Marketing and Market Access Department
Core member of the x‑functional brand team
High quality scientific and medical input in the Brand Teams, Brand Building Framework, strategic brand projects and Campaigns
Participate in the development and evaluation of the local operational brand strategy by ensuring input of KEE, customer insights and competitive intelligence
Responsible for reviewing and approving of promotional material - solution‑driven with thorough understanding of the promotional standards code (company and local)
Responsible for medical training of sales force
Deliver strategic and educational medical projects:
Develop and execute medical affairs projects (eg. build evidence) of the brand plan according to budget and timelines
Accurate retro‑planning of projects with close follow‑up in line with defined goals and KPI’s (Key Performance Indicators)
Close follow‑up of the project budget
Excellent communication on the progress of projects to all stakeholders
Build partnerships with Key External Experts:
Build and maintain visibility and excellent long‑term professional relationships with Key External Experts
Gather their insights and feed these insights back into the brand team
Advocacy mapping and management
Discussions with KEE on latest scientific news in therapeutic area
Lead national advisory boards with KEE
Involve KEE in medico‑marketing projects and internal trainings
Manage Real World Evidence projects (observational studies, local data collection)
Provide support to MSLs
Coach and develop MSLs to be best in class (scientific expertise, communication skills, business acumen)
Provide quarterly customer insights and status of MSL plans to the brand team
Education, Qualifications and Experience
Medical or Pharmacist Degree or scientific degree with PhD
Experienced in working within medical affairs
Significant and robust experience with searching, handling, assimilating, synthesizing, reporting and presenting scientific data in the health care sector
Working knowledge and understanding of relevant Legislation and Codes of Practice relating to promotional activities
Knowledge of breast cancer or the ability to acquire this knowledge rapidly.
Demonstrated understanding of patient needs
Experience in moderation of meetings with Healthcare Professionals
Knowledge of the Pharma and Belgian healthcare environment
Medical integrity and ethical balance
Highly collaborative mindset
Languages: Fluent French, Dutch and English
Experience in and knowledge of Pharmaceutical medical and marketing processes
National mobility and flexibility
At least 5 years of experience in a medical affairs role in the pharmaceutical industry
Broad employability in other Therapy Areas is an asset.
