An international insurance company with a strong European presence is currently looking for a
Liability Underwriter
to strengthen its Corporate Underwriting team in Belgium.
This role offers the opportunity to combine technical underwriting expertise with relationship management in a dynamic and international environment focused on long-term partnerships and sustainable growth.
Your Role
As part of the Liability Underwriting team, you will manage and develop a portfolio of corporate liability risks while acting as a trusted advisor for brokers and clients.
You will assess complex risks, provide underwriting expertise, and contribute to the profitable expansion of the portfolio through both technical excellence and commercial engagement.
The role combines analytical thinking, negotiation, market awareness, and client interaction.
Underwriting & Portfolio Management
Underwrite new business opportunities and manage renewals within the liability portfolio
Analyze and assess risks in accordance with underwriting guidelines and risk appetite
Handle files from initial assessment through policy issuance and follow-up
Work on different liability lines such as:
Public Liability
Product Liability
Environmental Liability
Broader casualty-related risks
Broker & Client Relationship Management
Build and maintain strong relationships with brokers and corporate clients
Act as a key point of contact for underwriting discussions and negotiations
Participate in client meetings, broker visits, and presentations
Deliver a high level of responsiveness and service quality
Market Analysis & Strategy
Monitor market developments, claims evolution, and underwriting trends
Identify commercial opportunities and contribute to portfolio steering initiatives
Support product enhancements and underwriting improvements based on market insights
Business Contribution
Contribute actively to the achievement of business targets and profitability objectives
Collaborate closely with colleagues across underwriting, claims, and risk functions
Participate in continuous improvement initiatives and knowledge sharing within the team
Experience & Education
Master's degree or equivalent professional experience
Minimum 3 years of underwriting experience within:
General Liability
Casualty lines
Corporate insurance environments
Technical Skills
Strong understanding of liability insurance products and underwriting principles
Ability to assess complex corporate risks and make sound underwriting decisions
Commercially minded while maintaining strong risk awareness
Languages
Fluent in Dutch, French, and English (written and spoken)
